It's My First First Day of Preschool!

September 2014

Dear Learn and Grow Families,

Welcome to our preschool!  We look forward to a great year with your family.  At Learn and Grow, it is our goal that you feel welcome and informed.  We hope to provide a place where kids feel safe to explore, enjoy new friends, and learn how a real classroom works.  Below, please find some information about how you can help this be a tremendous year for all.

Routine and Welcome Circle Time

Welcome circle is one of the most important parts of the day.  During circle time the children are learning to listen, sit still, and participate in a small group.  Please try to arrive on time with your child’s bathroom needs taken care of.  Also, it’s best for all if you attempt to say goodbye at the door. We understand that some children struggle periodically with drop off.  If your child is having a tough morning or you need to give us special information, please always feel free to come in.  We are comfortable helping you and your child get used to being separated and want to assist you in any way we can.

Behavior

Your child is expected to be courteous while at preschool. Hitting, biting, grabbing and/or aggressive behavior directed towards other children or teachers will not be allowed.

Siblings

We have an open door policy at Learn and Grow Preschool.  When joining us at circle time, please monitor any additional children you have with you.  It’s distracting to the students when visitors play with toys or the day’s art activities while they are expected to sit still and behave.  At pick up, please keep younger siblings in the hallway rather than allowing them to run into the classroom.  It’s helpful if we keep the flow of children heading in the outbound direction.  Once all of the students have been dismissed, we are always happy to answer questions and chat.

The Ramp

Please be mindful that there are many different activities going on in the building each day.  Please try to remind your children to use inside voices and quiet feet while walking up the ramp to the classroom.

Snack

Please sign up for a snack day.  There are between 10 to 14 school days per month depending on which class your child attends.  It’s most fairly distributed if everyone brings snack once every 6 to 8 weeks. When it’s your snack day, please remember to pack a healthy snack and something to drink.  Sugary treats are fine for birthdays and special occasions.  Also, please pack all supplies needed for your snack including napkins.  If you are sending a large carton of juice or milk to drink, please include cups. (5 ounce Dixie cups work great for small hands.)  If plates or utensils are needed, please send those too.  We do have a back up supply, but can run out quickly.

Toilet Training

All Tweener and Pre-K students must be self-sufficient in using the restroom by the start of school in September.

Clothing and Shoes

We are very active and get messy at preschool.  Please send your child in well fitting washable clothing because we can’t guarantee that your child’s clothes will stay paint and glue free.  Also, sometimes children wear dress up costumes to school.  Costumes and shoes that are too big or floppy can become bothersome when they are playing.  They can end up spending more time trying to keep their clothes and shoes on than they do playing and learning.

Information

The main source of school information will be the monthly newsletters.  Look for them in your child’s cubby a week or two prior to a new month.  Here you’ll find information about the concepts we intend to cover, Show and Tell themes and announcements.  Extra copies of the newsletters are posted outside the classroom door and in a marked bin on the cubby shelf.

Show and Tell

Show and Tell takes place on either Wednesdays or Thursdays.  3 day Pre K class has Show and Tell on Wednesdays.   The Tuesday/Thursday class has Show and Tell on Thursdays.  Show and Tell themes are listed in the newsletters.  Please try to find something to bring that fits the theme.  On Show and Tell days there will be a basket placed near the sign in sheet.  Place your child’s item in the basket and put their name on it with the tape provided so that we can return all items to their correct owners.

Again, we look forward to a great year with your children.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank You,

Ms. Amy, Ms. Faye & Ms. Pam
